Welcome to the website of the Society for Arab and Islamic Law (Gesellschaft für Arabisches und Islamisches Recht, GAIR).
Founded in 1997, GAIR promotes deeper mutual understanding between the legal systems, traditions and practices of Europe and the Islamic world, with a particular focus on the Arab world. It provides a forum for scholarly exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue on Arab and Islamic law, bringing together academics and researchers, legal practitioners and others working in related fields.
GAIR welcomes academics and researchers in law, Middle Eastern studies and related disciplines, legal practitioners, students and all others with an interest in Arab and Islamic law. We invite you to become part of our Society and contribute to its interdisciplinary exchange.
Explore this website to discover GAIR’s activities, publications and the latest developments in Arab and Islamic law. Our annual conferences provide a forum for scholars and practitioners to exchange ideas, share research and discuss current issues and emerging perspectives in the field.
